Receiving Sannyas

“Sannyas is available to anyone who chooses to make the decision to live life in its totality, but with an absolute condition… that condition is awareness, meditation.”

While defining a sannyasin is beyond impossible, a sannyasin may be categorised as simply a seeker for truth. There are many qualities to this, including but not limited to the following:

  • Sannyas is a living rebellion.

  • It’s an initiation into freedom. You are not only free, but you are also freedom.

  • A sannyasin is someone who renounces all worldly thoughts and desires, and spends the rest of his/her life in spiritual contemplation.

  • A sannyasin will be a totally unique person: someone who lives more and more in alertness, existing through awareness.

  • The sannyas life represents a new beginning where you are free to be yourself. One where you are not constrained, crippled, paralysed, or repressed to made to feel guilty.

  • A sannyasin is open to experience. Carrying his/her own experiences and not beliefs.

  • A sannyasin trusts his/her own organism: accepting him/herself and others.

  • A sannyasin brings beauty and joy into this world through his/her own creativity.

  • He/she has a sense of humour, laughter, playfulness and non-serious sincerity.

  • Sannyasins have a quality of meditativeness and aloneness. They can be happy alone and are no longer dependent on others

  • A sannyasin is insightful through their meditation, which is rooted in that awareness where thoughts are not found.

  • A sannyasin remains liquid and never becomes definable.

To receive sannyas is a decision to rebel. To go inwards. Bloom into the flower of sannyas. To be who you are. Unique. Beautiful. Boundless.

“Sannyas means courage more than anything else because it is a declaration of your individuality, a declaration of freedom, a declaration that you will not be any more part of the mob madness, the mob psychology. It is a declaration that you are becoming universal; you will not belong to any country, to any church, to any race, to any religion.”
